Cosmetic surgery procedures, such as a facelift or a necklift, are much more common now than they used to be – as in recent years the number of people in the US alone who have had them hit 15.1 million. There are many different types of cosmetic alterations though so it is important that you are sure you are choosing the right one before going ahead.
Breast surgery
This type of operation can fall into two different areas: breast enlargement or reduction and there are a number of reasons why you may consider them right for you. Breast enlargement can simply be something you want to feel better about yourself, particularly after giving birth and breastfeeding. On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is more often pursued for medical reasons, either to prevent back pain or to reduce the danger of cancer if you are at a high risk of this disease.
Facial surgery
This is another very common field of cosmetic surgery, but a lot of procedures come under this heading and they tend to be suitable for different age groups. The most well-known facial cosmetic procedure is a rhytidectomy, or facelift, which gets rid of wrinkles and tightens facial skin. Then there is a browplasty, which removes wrinkles or lines on the forehead; and a blepharoplasty, which lifts the skin above and below the eyes. These are all procedures that fight the ageing process and that will determine whether they are right for you, which is also the case when it comes to a platysmaplasty – or necklift – which sees fat and skin taken from the neck to reduce lines and wrinkles.
There are also several cosmetic procedures for the face and head that are more commonly sought by teenagers, such as an otoplasty, which is surgery to pin ears back if they stick out. Another type of facial procedure for which teenagers are the main market is dermabrasion. This helps to conceal acne scarring and both of these treatments can be suitable if the conditions are affecting your self-confidence or self-esteem.
Hair transplantation
This procedure involves taking grafts of hair follicles from the back of your head and transplanting them to areas of the scalp where the hair is thinning. It is one of the most common types of cosmetic surgery sought by men, as up to 45% of those under the age of 35 are now experiencing male pattern baldness. If this applies to you and is something that bothers you, a transplant could be the right choice.
These are the most common types of cosmetic procedures but it is recommended you speak to a professional before deciding what is best for you.
